ABOUT

We tell your stories

And, through your stories, we help you connect with customers, soothe your stakeholders and influence elites.

We excel at business communications, from case studies and white papers to strategic plans and funding prospectuses. We also write blog posts, web copy, marketing content, speeches and annual reports.

Our target audiences include: business decision makers, senior government officials, potential investors and supervisory boards.

Drawing on solid, senior level, international business experience, we get to the real business issues quickly. We understand your challenges and the problems you solve for your customers. We also understand the numbers and the strategic issues that lie behind the content you need to create.

As a result, we get to the results you need more quickly.

SERVICES

We engage your audience by telling your story

Why? Because the story-telling form is deeply ingrained in we humans. The oldest tales can be traced back to the Bronze Age, predating even written language. As a result, your audience is already attuned and will better remember your message.

It’s more than just words. “Once upon a time” is important, but there is science behind the art, too. We strive to construct your content in the way that will have the deepest, longest-lasting impact.

We write for a wide range of audiences, including: business decision makers in enterprise and small business, government and policy elites, potential investors, supervisory boards and shareholders.

We create content in different forms to meet your need: whitepapers, case studies, blog posts, business plans, briefing papers, business speeches, web copy and content marketing materials.

WHY BURNING PINE?

Ideas Words Numbers

Because it’s more than just words.

It’s not enough to simply find a writer and email them your corporate style guide. You need someone who understands business issues, who can get under the skin of your strategy, someone to augment your thinking and challenge your assumptions.

We bring many years of corporate experience at a senior level. We understand your goals and your audience’s challenges.

You’ll get to a common understanding more quickly, and won’t waste hours explaining why your readers care about working capital, or free cash flows, or the automation of data quality processes.

We’re client-focused, easy to work with and we always deliver. On time.

Digital disruption in the sleepy world of publishing – @jodysabral

More than just a digital copy of the printed page. Author Jody Sabral has a fascinating piece on the world of digital publishing (on BBC.co.uk). I was particularly struck by two aspects. Firstly, how the absence of a physical product is driving fresh approaches to…

The Sense of Style – Steven Pinker

I’m a huge fan of Steven Pinker’s 2014 book, The Sense of Style. It’s essential reading if you’re a writer as it makes sense of all those nonsensical “rules” you encounter in style guides. As a taster, check out this video which I…

    The Chief Storyteller – @stevecla

We need more storytellers. Here’s a great little interview with Steve Clayton, Chief Storyteller at Microsoft. I know Steve a little from our days at Microsoft UK and, as you’ll read (or see in the videos), he has a great feel for story. Also worth…

    The landline

When you’ve forgotten your door keys, and the batteries in the doorbell are flat, and your teenage son can’t hear the door knocker, and he keeps his mobile on silent when he’s asleep, then a good, old-fashioned, landline phone is essential.   Photo on Foter.com

    A writer is …

A writer is a person for whom writing is more difficult than it is for other people. Thomas Mann A great quote, courtesy of Michael Wade at Execupundit. Mann was a German writer famous for Death in Venice (remember the strangely haunting Dirk Bogarde film?)…

A dictionary to go – Cultural Offering

I’m indebted, once again, to Kurt at Cultural Offering for this image and the steer towards the Oxford English Dictionary’s phone app. The splendidly bearded fellow above is James Murray, first editor of the Oxford English Dictionary. My own copy – of the Shorter Oxford…
