Tools vs. Insight–Seth Godin

Seth hits the nail squarely on the head:

“Knowing about a tool is one thing. Having the guts to use it in a way that brings art to the world is another. Perhaps we need to spend less time learning new tools and more time using them.”

Which is not an excuse to avoid learning, training and CPD.  Simply a reminder that sometimes we – both personally and in business – place rather too much weight on having the qualification or doing the course rather than applying what we (should have) learnt from the courses, qualifications and experience we have already gained.

The generalisation also applies to consumer culture and business strategy: pay more attention to leveraging what you already have, rather than “buying more stuff”; be that a new Xbox game or the latest M&A target.
