A contract with Me Inc. #writing

Two posts this week that reflect the need for a professional approach to your writing, or to any other independent business.

The ever-inspirational Steven Pressfield posted the third in his series on the Professional Mindset:

“Every Monday morning I have a meeting with myself. I go over everything I’ve got to do in the coming week. I assign myself tasks and set myself goals and deadlines. I type up an Action List and distribute it to myself. If I succeed through the week, I reward myself. If I screw up, I kick myself in the ass.

While the abundant Seth Godin discussed The Pact:

“At some point, you’ll need to make a deal with yourself. What is this career for? What are the boundaries? What are you keeping score of, maximizing, improving? Who do you serve?

Both worth a read. We all need the slight detachment and the unavoidable commitment of a professional approach to running “Me Inc.” (or perhaps “Me plc”, in the UK)
