Flexible Working for Medium-sized Businesses
A former colleague, Angus Lyon, applies Microsoft’s Hybrid Organisation concept to medium-sized organisations. Small businesses are agile by necessity and usually by default; large enterprises have the resources to drive change and run large-scale pilot. As is often the case, medium-sized businesses can feel stuck in the middle.
Angus’s piece highlights two important issues:
- firstly, while technology is the critical enabler, it is not in itself sufficient. People issues such as management approach and communication are much larger issues to address;
- secondly, adopting a more flexible, agile approach can be done with small steps, incrementally. It is not necessary to plan and fund a wholesale transition.
