Collaboration and the Hybrid Organisation

Enabling collaboration, especially the serendipitous, ad hoc collaborations of the coffee-break, is one of the great benefits of the Hybrid Organisation concept.

On the HBR blog today, Robert J Thomas posts the Three Essential Ingredients of Great Collaborations.  As Thomas observes, effective collaboration takes time and not all collaboration leads to positive outcomes.  It works best when people come together over problems that:

  • Don’t have an obvious solution
  • Lack structure
  • Require collective volition.
